Ok Milani. If that is how you want to do things, then I hope you are very happy, because Sashey and I are taking over for you. Here are the things you missed out on: being a group member, coming to a prestigious and otherwise expensive Kaplan class that had a spot specially reserved for you, gaining Sashey and my trust, and getting your very own laptop, though I'm coming to believe that may not be of interest to you, like most things these days seem to be, that have to do with the program you WERE involved with. When you decide to come up for a breath of air, do not expect your former friends to be there and help. We've gone where we need to go. Unfortunately, that was away from any chance of ever working with you. See you around...
Milani:
Thanks for the posting. I like how you organized the information. You would have no problem using your notes to answer general questions a person might ask about Kazan and his relationship with the Amalgamated Clothing Workers. Now I would like you to take the technique to the next level. (We'll be doing this during the workshop on Saturday.) I noticed you read through all the material (pages 148 to 154) and hit some of the main themes. Remember, when you are doing research like this, you want to read the material closely enough and write sufficiently detailed notes so that you need not look at the text again.
This is for the "almagamated housing group a":
The notes for the Shaviro 148-154
Topic:the almagamated housing cop.
Main Idea: "the almagamated housing corp. was a result of activities of a group of reform-minded members...."

after making the frist set of houses Karzan wanted to make more. He started the houses and in 1929 the stock market crashed.
the second set of bulidings he made was in Jerome Park Resevoir
Questions:
why did Karzan need a permit to make housing for the membres of the union?
why did Karzan want to bulid his houses on Jerome Park?
Almag house the history.
The immi in ny were mostly jewish poor families that were running away from the horrible conditions in native countries. They mostly worked in sweatshops where bosses were cruel to them. Then landlords were also as cruel to them as the bosses. The poor families ran to the union for help and sindey hillman had nothing to do to help them. so he called on Karzan to do something to help out the families. he knew that the families needed houses so he knew building affordable houses will work. He began to make houses for these people.
march 28,1927 Union to finance apt buyers
Sideny hillman the president of the union says that he wants to make new houses for the people of the union. he wants to build them in the Van Courtlandt Park. the houses cost around 1,750,000, and will be ready by october. the rooms will cost $500 and the rent will be $11 and with tax only $11.50.
Question: how will the union get the money to build all the houses? who will help the union workers pay all that money, if most are poor families? how did the union start and who stared them, are they funded by the government?
Loans by the amalgamated bank and the amalgamated credit union will help fund the workers in paying all the money for rent. the interest rate wiil be $.50 and the loans will cover 3/5 of the money.
Questions:how did the union get so much money to make it's own bank? is that bank funded by the government or is it private?
the people in the apartments will be able to use the stores and the library also the school bus that will be free for tenets to use.
Notes: The almagmated clothing union wants the tenets to be co- owners of the buildings. Sidney Hillman the president will the tenets of the buildings will give a piece of the stock to the tenets. They will slowly buy the stocks in small payments. They will borrow money from the banks and the unoin.
While Sidney Hillman spoke and gave the annoucments he let two men come and support the ideas. One man that spoke was Vladeck the creater and editor of the Jewish newspaper. He thanked Hillman and the other union workers and said he total suports the almagmated.then the co owner of the union Karzan said that it was a good idea and that he also supports the union ideas. the buying of the buildings will be better on the people because of the great investments.
Question: Where did these people come from? WHEN DID THEY COME AND WHO DID THEY WORK FOR?
document" the history of the pioneer co-operative 1927
"At the turn of the last century a vast influx of immigrants moved into the Lower East Side
in New York City. These newly arriving poor people were housed in squalid,
overcrowded, walk up tenements, with no sunlight or ventilation. They used shared
toilets in the hallways, or perhaps the lucky few had bathtubs in the kitchen. Most of
these immigrants, a large number of whom were Jews, labored in the sweatshops of the
needle trades, and other similarly deplorable work situations.//** With their bosses being as
oppressive as their landlords, people found themselves living and working in equally
desperate circumstances. In reaction to these shameful conditions, and while being denied
any sort of rights, workers began to organize. They looked to unions, such as the
Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union, to protect them, and improve their lot in life."
THEN IT WAS AFTER WAR WORLD ONE AND THERE WAS A NEED FOR HOUSING AND A DECENT SHELTER WAS ALMOST ZERO...THEN THE HOUSES THAT WAS THERE WAS OVER PRICE BY MONEY HUNGRY LANDLORDS. ALL THE PEOPLE WERE BEING EVICTED AND WAS HOMELESS THEY ALL RAN TO UNIONS SUCH AS THE AMALGAMATED.
Document: Tenants get back 30,000
Main Idea: the people living in housing saves a great amount of money in rent and bills.
notes: sidney thinks of a way to help save money for all the tenets. he then puts in electric supplies which wil be less money for the bill.tenets then save a numerous amount of money reporting to say that they saved at least 30,000.
